A Quick Guide To Making Citations In A Dissertation

Citations; a lot of students know so much about them, but sadly, not so many of them know how they are supposed to work with them, or use them in an appropriate manner. Ideally there are a number of things that you are supposed to think about when you are planning on the kind of paper that you should write. Over the years we have seen a lot of students who write very good papers but since they do not know how to cite their sources, they end up failing.

The thing is that these students do not fail because they do the wrong thing, but they fail because they do not have an idea of how to proceed from the far that they have come. Did you know that failure to use citations in your paper will make your sources appear to be plagiarized content? We all understand clearly the challenge that plagiarism poses to your work, and it is with the same idea in mind that we need to proceed with caution and make sure that we highlight some of the things that will make yours one of the easiest experiences so far. With the guide that we are looking into, it will be a lot easier for you to make sure that you use the citations appropriately, and ensure that you do all you can to ensure that everything you do turns out just fine. Pay attention to these tips and you will be good to go:

Choose the sources carefully

One of the first things that you have to make sure you do is to choose the sources that you use for this paper carefully. There are a lot of sources out there, so make sure that you choose the ones that are relevant to your paper. Anything else other than that will see you fail.

Author names

When writing the names of authors, you should always use their last names only. Even if they are two authors, you should use their last names, then separate with a comma and then the year of publication.

Anonymous authors

If you do not know the name of the author, just use the abbreviation Anon. to indicate that this is an anonymous author. This is because at times you might come across really good content but do not know the name of the author.
